“I’m a strong supporter of [financing the CDFI Fund], and we need to not only continue to make sure we get the funds and have it allocated here out the door before the end of the year,” said Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.).
More than 100 Republican lawmakers in both chambers quickly pushed back on the White House decision to fire all CDFI Fund employees in the Treasury Department through an October letter. Treasury responded late last week in a letter obtained by POLITICO that all CDFI Fund reductions in force were rescinded as part of a bill Congress passed last month to reopen the government.
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), co-chair of the Senate Community Development Finance Caucus, said in a statement that “CDFIs play a critical role in economic development in rural, tribal and underserved areas in Idaho. I remain supportive of the Fund and am committed to continuing efforts to ensure it fulfills its purpose of serving communities more often left behind by the federal government and traditional finance sector.”
